The team here at Shed One are over the moon to win Cumbria Tourism's Makers And Producers Award. It is an honour to be the winner of this prestigious prize. Plus, the trophy is so beautiful. Created by Jo Vincent, "I mounted bespoke handmade glass forms, gold leafed, onto local Kirby Moor slate with gold printed text." Zoe couldn't make it to the awards ceremony, but Andy did and was chuffed to bits to collect the award!
We're proud to be creating a range of spirits right here, in the heart of Ulverston, Cumbria, using traditional, foraged and locally-grown botanicals. Working with local growers and community groups, we also have a charity arm to the business. This is called our "Marmalade Fund". Throughout the year we raise money for our charity partner, Furness Homeless Support Group, as well as donating money, products and time to other charities and groups. Winning the Cumbria Tourism's Makers And Producers Award is a huge achievement.
Another part of our business is the experiences: Distillery Tours & Tastings, Afternoon G&Teas and Cumbria's first Make Your Own Spirits. Our Make Your Own Spirits experience won Visit England's Best Experience in 2023.
Plus, we work with other businesses to create small batch, bespoke gins and botanical vodkas.
Always at the heart of our business is the environment. Keeping this in mind, we try our best to keep the distillery and our practices as environmentally-friendly as we can. To this end we've won The Gin Guide's Environmental Sustainability Award for 4 years running.
Shed One was also the recipient of a group award.
The Bernard Gooch Award for Tourism Personality of the Year 2024
To round off the night, the Bernard Gooch Award – the highest accolade collectively given by the industry for an outstanding contribution to Cumbria’s visitor economy.
This year the award is presented to Cumbria’s £1billion food and drink sector and all the exceptional people behind it, including chefs, cafes, restaurants, B&Bs, hotels, food and drink producers and retailers, and many more.
