Wow!
What a brilliant evening at the Cumbria Food Awards.
The lovely Simon Rimmer, chef and presenter of Sunday Brunch, hosted the awards and we were very lucky to be one of the recipients. Shed One Distillery won the Cumbria Food Awards: Ethical & Sustainable. We are proud to fly the flag for micro businesses who rent their buildings and don't have any outside space. It can make sustainability more challenging; however, thinking outside the box also helps us develop some interesting initiatives.
As for the evening itself, Michaela and her Cumbria Food Awards team did an amazing job of putting the whole event together. The students and staff at Kendal Culinary College worked incredibly hard and served the most delicious meal.
Simon Rimmer spoke about the increasing challenges of running a hospitality business; however, he said despite this, he loves working in it. “I’m proud to be in our industry,” he said. “We care about it and we care about people and we care about our customers and we care about our suppliers. From me to you, thank you for being part of this magnificent industry.”
A toast was also raised to Hairy Biker and Cumbrian Champion Dave Myers, who died earlier this month. We were lucky to meet him on two occasions. One of them being when he presented us with an award in 2019. He will be sorely missed.
A few days later we got an email from the North West Family Business Community.
We have made the finals in three, THREE, categories!
