Gin Experiences
We at Shed 1 Distillery, Ulverston, launched our gin tour and tasting experience in January 2020. Since then, word has got around that it’s a fun-filled hour and a half of gin facts, stories and giggles all hosted by the us, the owners and distillers, Andy & Zoe.
When we moved from our garden shed to The Old Calf Shed that we realised we had space to invite people on a gin tour and tasting and show the story and processes of Shed 1. From distilling to bottling and labelling and packing, it all happens right here at The Old Calf Shed!
We are a micro-distillery using a 100 litre still so each batch is around 140 (50cl) bottles. The team is us, Andy & Zoe, and two brilliant part time members of staff and between us we do it all from hosting, concocting, creating, and even baking.
A gin tour and tasting starts off with a welcome G&T, followed by a tour and chat in the distillery and then back into our stylish and quirky bar (with views of Ulverston’s iconic Pepperpot) to settle down and taste the gins available. Then choose your favourite for your second G&T.
But that’s not all we have to offer at The Old Calf Shed.
How about a botanical-inspired Afternoon G&Tea with a Distillery Tour? Zoe has created sweet treats incorporating the botanicals found in our gins. The scones are brushed with a juniper glaze and the chocolate cake has hints of orange and chilli with a cardamom butter icing. Always
experimenting the menu changes depending on the season and inspiration. All the sweet treats are gluten-free.
How about something more than just a gin tour and tasting? Make Your Own Gin. By keeping the groups small, no more than 8, we take you through the whole process starting with selecting botanicals, mixing them and putting them in the still. Relax with a drink and a couple of sweet treats and scones before blending with filtered Cumbrian water to reach the perfect abv. Then, all you have to do is choose a name and an image and we’ll create your personal gin label.
Did we mention we also have a wedding licence?
