Happy Apple Day!
Today, October 21st, is Apple Day and it's also 2 days (23rd October) before we relaunch our Festive Bramble Gin Elixir.
As many of you know we forage all the blackberries that go into our liqueur from around Ulverston (and have the scars to prove it!). However, did you know that our apples come from a friend's orchard and they're not just any kind of apples?
Colin grows Heritage Apples that are native to Britain and this area, but are not widely available. They taste great and really add a special something to our gin.
FYI: Apple Day was launched in 1990 by
Common Ground. "From the start, Apple Day was intended to be both a celebration and a demonstration of the variety we are in danger of losing, not simply in apples, but in the richness and diversity of landscape, ecology and culture too. It has also played a part in raising awareness in the provenance and traceability of food."
